Alzheimer Outreach Center (AOC)

The University of Pittsburgh Alzheimer Disease Research Center (ADRC) was established in 1985 by a grant from the National Institute on Aging (NIA). The Alzheimer Outreach Center (AOC) is the community satellite and outreach program of the ADRC. The AOC has been a part of the community since 1992.

The mission of the Alzheimer Outreach Center is to increase the awareness of Alzheimer’s disease in the African American community.


The AOC Provides:
  • Evaluations of individuals with memory and thinking problems
  • Diagnosis
  • Initiation of treatment
  • Education and counseling for patients and families
  • Referrals to community resources
  • Support groups for caregivers
  • Opportunities to participate in research studies
Memory evaluations are conducted at the ADRC at UPMC Montefiore in Oakland. For more information contact:
